Voice Control –Siri Alternative For iPhone 4 Or iPhone 3GS

Siri is a dream feature for iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS users. With iPhone 4S being available to complete any of your voice commands, Apple has made it officially impossible for older iPhones to do the same. However there is no need to worry, as iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS have built Voice Control right into the phone and while it’s still limited in functionality; it’s very easy to use.

There are two ways to activate this feature on your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS: you need to either just press and hold the home button or use the middle button on your headphones or Bluetooth headset if you’re using any. You’ll then hear a beep and Voice Control UI should appear on your screen, asking you to speak your command. Below you’ll find the available commands that work smoothly on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS:

Dialing and calling options: say “dial” or directly “call” + number; contact name – work, home, mobile, ect.

Music Options: say “Play” + playlist name, song title, album title, artist name. This includes Pause options as well, activated similarly. You can also ask you iPhone to play next/previous song/track, shuffle the track order or even ask your iPhone what’s currently playing, what song is this or who’s singing this.

Your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS is also able to tell you “what time is it” and the current date.

When you make a mistake or your speech is recognized wrong, your iPhone will ask you to clarify and if you say “No, Not That One, Wrong” or anything else of that nature that feels natural, and it will go back.

The good thing to note is that those commands that doesn’t involve a phone call also works on the 3rd and 4th generation iPod touch similarly. Moreover, Voice Control works no matter where you are in the iPhone, Home Screen or app, and even when you’re iPhone is locked. So in such an unfair situation (with only iPhone 4S completing voice commands) we think it helps ( at least a bit).

Great post. I have an iPhone 4 and I'm not going to upgrade to 4S just because of Siri.
