Probably one of the most-awaited Microsoft Office App for iPad and iPhone is a reality! Despite being rumored and speculated numerous times previously, there has been no official word heard from Microsoft, which remained obstinately quiet when it comes to company’s plans for the product. However, we’ve learned from several sourced close to the matter that the company will release Office version for iOS devices in early 2013!
The MS Office for mobile devices is said to debut as a free app enabling smartphone users to view and edit their documents while on the go. Similarly to the existing Microsoft apps for iOS – such as OneNote and SkyDrive, the upcoming MS Office will require a Microsoft account, which will provide access to the basic viewing functionality in the apps on the first launch. All types of Office docs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel will be supported. As for the edit functionality, it can reportedly be enabled with an Office 365 subscription. According to the recent reports, Microsoft will either allow users to purchase an Office 365 subscription within the app, or may let organizations distribute codes to enable Office Mobile editing for users. The recent Press Release from Czech Republic subsidiary of Microsoft reveals the MS Office app for iPS will arrive in March 2013.
Despite giving the editing options, “this won't go very far in attempting to replace regular full use of a desktop Office version” – recent reports claim. And some good news at the end - a company spokesperson confirmed that "Office will work across Windows Phone and Android devices as well."
