Skype for iPhone and iPod touch has just been updated with major enhancements including features related to chatting and VoIP calling capabilities. A revamped UI and improved calling experience was brought back in March to iOS users, but now Microsoft-owned IM service now lets you switch easily between headset, speaker or Bluetooth device, without interrupting call in progress.
Moreover, Skype and Lync customers are now able to connect with each other from across these platforms. This is a notable update as Lync is used by over 90 of the Fortune Global 100 companies.
Microsoft has also mentioned a recently introduced Video Messages feature, allowing Skype users to send short video snippets to each other up to three minutes long, whether online or offline.
Here’s the full new feature list of Skype V.4.8 :
• Easily switch between headset, speaker or Bluetooth device
• One-to-one chats now appear in the correct order
• New introduction screens for first time use
• General fixes and improvements
Updated Skype for iOS is available in the Apple App Store for free and requires iOS 5.0 or later. Once you try the newly added features, so not hesitate to share your impressions in the comments below.
