Brian Eno Released Another iPhone Application - Trope

Brian Eno, has released a second iPhone application Trope, developed with the help of designer and musician Peter Chilvers. The new app lets users create their own ambient music by drawing patterns with their fingers. The shape of each pattern creates a different tone.

Unlike the first Eno app, Bloom, Trope is described as producing darker music that is "more introspective, more atmospheric." Particular moods can be selected from an accompanying palette.

The software requires a device with iPhone 2.2 firmware or better. For the sake of fidelity it is recommended that people use either headphones or external speakers, instead of earbuds or built-in speakers.

"Trope is a different emotional experience from Bloom - more introspective, more atmospheric. It shows that generative music, as one of the newest forms of sonema, can draw on a broad palette of moods." - Brian Eno.

Trope is available now on the App Store for £2.39 ($3.99), and Eno stresses that it's different from its predecessor.

iPhone outruns BlackBerry in app use and social networks

Compete, a TNS Media company, today released the results from its quarterly Smartphone Intelligence survey, which provides behavioral and survey-based insights into how consumers are using their iPhones and other "smart" devices.

iPhone owners are much more likely to download apps and get involved with social networking than their BlackBerry-owning counterparts, Compete revealed today in a new study.

Key findings include:
- 73 percent of Blackberry owners have downloaded 5 or fewer applications; in contrast, 72 percent of iPhone owners have downloaded 10 or more applications.
- Facebook is hot among iPhone owners: 71 percent of iPhone users report accessing Facebook from their mobile device, 37 percent listed Facebook as one of their top three most utilized apps and 18 percent claim it's their favorite app.
- 30 percent of all smartphone owners are either comfortable or very comfortable receiving targeted marketing on their device.

The researchers add that iPhone owners are more willing to buy their apps than BlackBerry owners.

iPhone users are also significantly more likely to have a Twitter account (26% versus 15%) and are more than twice as likely to actually use Twitter on their phones, at 26% compared to 10%. Industry-wide, only 45% have Facebook accounts and 19% have Twitter accounts, and 85% of smartphone Twitter users actually choose to use the website instead.Regardless of platform, 83% of users prefer apps that cost below $5.

In addition to networking activities, smartphone owners are open to receiving targeted marketing via their device. What types of offers make the best candidates for marketers trying to reach networked consumers? Impulse and leisure purchases tend to be easier to digest than big, highly considered ones. Therefore, nearly half of smartphone owners are receptive to location-based offers at restaurants and offers to save and pursue at their leisure, and 45% would use mobile grocery coupons.

How to Request an Application Review

We would like to thank iPhone application developers for their efforts for making the iPhone OS an incredible platform. Past several months we have reviewed a lot applications, both free and commercial. We wanted to give as much coverage as possible to each and every application. Unfortunately, the number of review requests that we receive each week is far beyond what we can handle. Moreover, simply responding to every developer was a tremendous task and we would like to apologize to those who never received our response.

To address the above mentioned issue, we are introducing a commercial application review service for a modest one time fee of  $59.
Let's Get Started
Click here to contact us and e-mail your application link and a promo code. Submitting additional material (screen shots, video, press release) is not required but is highly recommended. We will be in touch with further instructions.

Truly FREEWARE application developers can submit their applications for review without fees. While we cannot guarantee coverage, we will do our best to give you exposure, especially if our editorial team finds your application exciting.

AT&T Announces MMS Launch Date for iPhone

AT&T has finally announced the release day of MMS for iPhone 3G and 3GS users and that launch day is: September 25.

AT&T points to the need for the company to build out its network infrastructure to handle the demands of heavy MMS messaging volumes as the primary reason for the delay in launching the service compared to carriers in other countries that have offered MMS since the launch of iPhone OS 3.0 in June.

AT&T’s only explanation for the long delay in unveiling the service was, “to give our customers a positive experience from day one and we needed to make sure our network is ready to handle what we expect will be a record volume of MMS traffic.”

As was announced earlier, MMS messaging will be included at no additional cost to users with an iPhone text messaging plan. MMS will be enabled through a software update.
