Clean Up and Recover Your iPhone For Better Performance

We've recently shared some tips on how to speed up your iPhone, covering simple tips that made your iDevice work faster. This time we’d like to share some tips on how to keep your iPhone cleaned up and how to “revive” it.

To give your trusted iPhone a spring cleaning of its own, you need to reclaim hard drive space by checking and repairing your hard drive consumption. As there is no set amount of free hard drive space that is strongly recommended to be kept free on your iPhone, generally 500 MB-1GB is considered to be enough for apps to store data without any crashes.

One more advisable thing is to take a look at which apps are taking up the most space and why by navigating to Settings - General - Usage and check the list of your apps and the space they’re using. You’ll be surprised to find out that some apps that officially need quite a little space, actually occupy significantly more. The solution to this is that for in built apps, like a camera app, you can delete extra pictures within the app itself. As for the third party apps that consume a lot of space while actually need much less, you can try uninstalling and re-installing them.

To make your iPhone feel cleaner, you can also try revamping the Settings on it. Furthermore, if you’re struggling from poor battery performance, Settings menu is what will help you. Disabling the following options will definitely help your battery last longer:

  • Disabling Ping by heading to Settings - General - Restrictions - Ping;
  • Push notifications for apps by navigating to Settings – Notifications;
  • Location Services directly disabled from Settings - Location Services;
  • Push notifications for email are disabled similarly from Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

The good thing is that you are able to alter these settings per app basis, meaning that each app may have its individual settings. So if you’d love to keep some apps sending you notifications, you can easily manage it, with no need to allow notifications for everything.

Hope these small tips help you make your beloved iDevice feel fresher and cleaner, and allow you to feel the best of your smartphone experience.
