Clean Up and Recover Your iPhone For Better Performance

We've recently shared some tips on how to speed up your iPhone, covering simple tips that made your iDevice work faster. This time we’d like to share some tips on how to keep your iPhone cleaned up and how to “revive” it.

To give your trusted iPhone a spring cleaning of its own, you need to reclaim hard drive space by checking and repairing your hard drive consumption. As there is no set amount of free hard drive space that is strongly recommended to be kept free on your iPhone, generally 500 MB-1GB is considered to be enough for apps to store data without any crashes.

One more advisable thing is to take a look at which apps are taking up the most space and why by navigating to Settings - General - Usage and check the list of your apps and the space they’re using. You’ll be surprised to find out that some apps that officially need quite a little space, actually occupy significantly more. The solution to this is that for in built apps, like a camera app, you can delete extra pictures within the app itself. As for the third party apps that consume a lot of space while actually need much less, you can try uninstalling and re-installing them.

To make your iPhone feel cleaner, you can also try revamping the Settings on it. Furthermore, if you’re struggling from poor battery performance, Settings menu is what will help you. Disabling the following options will definitely help your battery last longer:

  • Disabling Ping by heading to Settings - General - Restrictions - Ping;
  • Push notifications for apps by navigating to Settings – Notifications;
  • Location Services directly disabled from Settings - Location Services;
  • Push notifications for email are disabled similarly from Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

The good thing is that you are able to alter these settings per app basis, meaning that each app may have its individual settings. So if you’d love to keep some apps sending you notifications, you can easily manage it, with no need to allow notifications for everything.

Hope these small tips help you make your beloved iDevice feel fresher and cleaner, and allow you to feel the best of your smartphone experience.

Unlock iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 3GS Running iOS5 – Tutorial

One of the most difficult and often impossible tasks is the career unlocking of the iPhone. However it was quite a simple process back in the early iPhone era via Ultrasn0w, but nowadays customers have to either request the carrier to unlock the device or apply to ethically-dubious GEVEY interposer, requiring a spoof-dial to the emergency services. However Gizmodo claims to have found a way of unlocking iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS that requires no use of any hardware or software.

However there is a disclaimer saying that some people have confirmed the method to be functional, while some have reported the difficulties. So as there are mixed results, it is up to you to decide to take a risk or not. And one more thing – it is confirmed to only work for AT&T devices so far.

Below we’ve clarified the process of unlocking step by step, so follow the guidelines carefully to avoid disappointing results.

First of all you should get and insert AT&T SIM into your iPhone 4S/4/3GS. Once inserted, make a call to 611- that is customer service number of the career. When you’ve dropped the call, activate airplane mode on your iPhone.

Now remove the AT&T SIM and replace with the T-Mobile one. You should ensure that there are no Wi-Fi connections running. To do this, tap on ‘Forget this Network" to make sure it doesn't connect automatically later.

You should now deactivate the Airplane mode and wait for your device to search for a signal. This will be followed by the appearing of an Apple splash screen. The device will now require the activation and the EDGE network will activate automatically – E sign will appear at the left corner of the display.

Now take a deep breath and hold on for about 30 seconds before you turn off the phone. When you turn your iPhone back on, the Activation Required screen will again be displayed. Tap on Use Cellular Connection when you see the signal bar and eject SIM card. Again the Activation Required screen will be displayed- now insert the SIM card and you’re UNLOCKED!

There has been a video of the unlocking process described above in action, but the author has made it private for unidentified reasons. So consider that you proceed on your own, at your own risk. Wish you luck!

Take Amazing Photos With Your iPhone Camera – Tip Of The Week!

Did you know that iPhone lineup is becoming the new standard for picture taking? According to the recent report, when tracking solely smartphone use on Flickr, the statistics show complete domination by Apple- iPhone 4 is the most popular camera used on the site with over 51 million registered users.  The top four smartphones for picture taking on Flickr are, in order, the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS.

With this said, it’s quite important to know how to take pictures with your smartphone properly, so they are not blurred, noisy, dark or misfocused. We have listed numerous tips on how to take great iPhone photos, but what we have to share now is definitely the most amazing one you’ve ever heard of!

Scientific America has recently discovered probably the most astonishing and the cheapest camera “hack” – they claim that a droplet of water suspended on an iPhone camera acts as a magnifying lens! Yes, you’ve read it right- if you simply place a drop of water on the phone’s lens, and carefully turn the device over the suspended droplet serves as a liquid lens and turns your iPhone camera into a microscope!

“Droplet images are dreamy, blurred at the periphery, and just a little bit…wet” – the “inventor” warns, but even the tiniest subjects are magnified with appropriate resolution for an improvised microscope! Few-hour -long experimenting suggests that to make the best use of the “magnifying” ability of your iPhone camera, you need to consider the following:

The larger and rounder the droplet is, the higher is the magnification. Relatively, as the shrinks, magnification decreases.
As the liquid is vulnerable to vibrations you should hold your iPhone stable. For better results it is recommended that you place your iPhone on a stable platform for maximum clarity.

And a little warning hereby: as water is not generally wholesome for any piece of electronics, so be as careful as you can when applying the droplet. Below you’ll find some examples of iPhone camera photos captures through a water-drop. However the image quality is not as sharp as those provided by professional solid clip-on lenses, but don’t you get what you pay for?

How To Get Camera Lock Screen Without Updating To iOS5.1

The latest iOS version 5.1 bought several improvements to the users who decided to upgrade. One of such enhanced features is permanently displaying a camera icon that reacts to a swipe up gesture, which eliminates the need to double tap the Home button on the lockscreen to display a camera shortcut button.

However not every iPhone user is able to make use of the features iOS 5.1 boasts with, especially the jailbroken ones who are obviously staying away from the latest iOS update due to the fact that no stable and complete jailbreak is available for that particular version of the firmware yet. However jailbreak fans need not worry no more, as Camera Grabber for iOS 5 has recently been released, making the quick camera access available to iPhone 4, 4S, 3GS and iPod touch 4G running on iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1 ; without the iOS5.1 update requirement!

Once you install the app you’ll notice that the slide to unlock bar is significantly shortened and a grabber type camera button is displayed, which is then invoked by sliding vertically. One more good thing to know is that the tweak is quite a good implementation of the official update by Apple as it even considers the passcode rules, so if the passcode is activated no one will be able to gain access to the Camera Roll without entering the code properly.

Obviously you need to jailbreak your device to install this tweak. Camera Grabber is available to download from big Boss Repository completely for free! The thing to note is that Camera Grabber does not install any additional SpringBoard icons and no dedicated preferences entries are included. So enjoy the tweak and let us your opinion!

5 Secrets Of iOS 5.1

The much awaited and discussed iOS 5.1 has arrived few weeks ago, but the boom around it is not quieting till now. Some users decide not to upgrade at all, while some have already updated their iPhones and find iOS 5.1 more than helpful to use. However there are users who regret upgrading and complain about Wi-Fi issues…Anyway, it is up to you to upgrade or not, but we are presenting some secret iOS 5.1 features below that you might find attractive ( despite the major new features of the update that we have already discussed).

Camera secrets – you’re probably already aware that iOS 5.1 brings camera icon always on screen for your convenience:  you can now slide the camera button upward to move the lock screen out of the way and display the camera. To return from the camera you need to slide the lock screen back down from the top of the screen, or even tap the home button to go directly to the home screen from here. Furthermore, camera app has a new feature added after the update- face detection- your iPhone camera will now help highlight all the detected faces and help you capture better photos than ever before.

Podcast Controls – if you decide to upgrade to iOS 5.1, your iPhone will enable you to control the playback speeds for a podcast on the iPad and also skip-back controls. Although these features have already been available since the dawn of iOS 3.0, iOS 5.1 brings this all in an improved way.

iTunes Match Improvements – iTunes Match has been highly improved with iOS 5.1 update. If Genius options used to disappear entirely after enabling iTunes Match and thereby replaced the locally-synced library, now Genius Playlists and Genius Mixes are available via iTunes Match, helping you to access to your whole iTunes library via iCloud, and thereby offering a larger selection when creating Genius Playlists. Moreover, Genius Mixes not only stream by default but also provide an additional button in the top-left corner of the screen that can be used to download the entire thing for offline listening.

4G Pointer – if you are an AT&T customer and have already updated your iOS to the latest version you’ve probably already noticed the new indicator as of now. This pointer can be used as an indicator of an HSPA+ network. However the indicator is exclusive to AT&T customers and the iPhone users in the rest of the world will see the standard 3G indicator on HSPA+ networks.

Delete Photos – Previously, you had to reset the entire Photo Stream and then toggle it off and again back on to get unwanted photos out of the photo stream. With the iOS 5.1 update you are now allowed to delete the undesired photos directly from the Photo Stream on any iDevice running the new update. Moreover it is said that some corresponding updates have also been released to enable this feature for the Apple TV, iPhoto and the iCloud Control Panel for Windows.

These are some new features of iOS.5.1 update that you may have missed. Let us know your opinion about this major update below in the comments.

Foxconn Employees Working On iPhone 5

The recent reports from Chinese sources claim that after the successful release of the new iPad, Taiyuan Foxconn started building Apple iPhone5. However the factory is said to be experiencing the huge shortage of workers, and the sources cited that the shortfall reaches up to about 20,000 people. With this said the factory is recruiting people in an emergency mode.

One of the employees of Foxconn, Mr. Yu commented that the company employment gap is still large and the shortage mainly refers to the lack of shop front-line workers. Undoubtedly the iPhone 5 building project is the most important one for Foxconn. To solve the employee shortage problem Foxconn is said to even been using information bars, billboards, train station, bus handles and other public ads to attract the attention. Mr. Yu added that Foxconn has held more than 20 job fairs in order to produce the supposed 57 million iPhone 5 units demanded by Apple, which is the 85%of the order.

As for iPhone 5 itself, as usual, there are no details officially confirmed. But if you recall the numerous rumors about the next smartphone by Apple, here is what you should get as a result: expected to be released in October , just like iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 is rumored to be redesigned completely  – it is said to leak home button and feature larger display, while some claim that the screen size of the next iPhone will stay the same size. The rumors are endless, so we made an iPhone 5 rumor roundup  for you to decide what looks real and what is fake. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated about the matter as soon as we hear something worth mentioning.

Most Expensive iPhone Apps Available In iTunes

It’s quite strange how one can spend more on the smartphone apps than the device itself, but it happens, and the fact that such apps exist in iTunes proves that. Remember we’ve told you the story of the app called I am Rich , bringing the developer $5600 in net revenue before it was removed? You’ll be surprised to hear that only 8 individuals managed to download the app while it was available for only a short period of time, and as the app price tag was $999.99, it still appeared to be quite beneficial even if considering its short lifespan.

You’ll be even more surprised to know that there still are some iPhone apps that cost almost $1000 ranging from lifestyle to productivity categories. Below you’ll find some examples of such apps available in iTunes. We’d like to hear your opinion whether these apps are worth the price they cost or not and your suggestions about the price you’re ready to pay for them are welcome too.

iVIP Black is one of the apps available for $999.99 in the lifestyle category of Apple App store. The app has an age restriction- only folks above 17 years are allowed to get it. 'The Millionaire's App' developers consider their app to be first and only premium lifestyle one for the iPhone, with its members receiving personalized attention and heightened experiences across the range of iVIP partners. The app partners list consists of luxurious hotels, restaurants and many other premium brands, services and venues. Moreover, any resulting project plan, personalization, and bespoke software/app and/or hardware development will come at additional cost, added to the initial $999.99 the app costs. More specifically, here is what you get if you download the app:

* Be treated like a VIP across our partner venues;
* Benefit from unique iVIP privilege rates with many of our partner services;
* Receive complimentary room upgrades at luxurious hotels;
* Take advantage of priority booking at premium restaurants;
* Receive complimentary amenities at various partner venues;
* Get priority access to unique events and experiences;
* Access a concierge directly through iVIP;
* Book private yachts, private jets, private islands, and more, directly through iVIP;
* Receive invitations to exclusive iVIP evenings;
* Purchase the unique, limited edition iVIP Black iPhone.

Now when you know the benefits you get, it’s up to you to decide whether iVIP Black is worth $999.99 or not.

Another example of expensive apps is this time from productivity category, called Agro. What the app does is that it allows agronomists to create and email paddock/field inspection reports while on farm, have it distributed there and then. Basically the main function of Agro app is to eliminate trips to the office to type up reports and lets you use the iOS4.2 printing services, auto email to all your clients contacts or custom distribute. That’s what we were able to find out at the very first glance, as we did not even consider spending $1000 just to test the app out, moreover if you consider the fact that we are not agronomists.

You are able to find more expensive iPhone apps here . Some of them may become the next item in your wishlist, some not. Anyway, we’d like you to have your say about the apps with incredible price tags that are available. If we missed some important ones, do not hesitate to tip us.

How To Speed Up Your iPhone

If you are an active iPhone user you may experience that your phone runs slower time to time. As any other devices, iPhones do need periodic maintenance to keep everything optimal, so there is no need to panic. Below we have listed several simple things you can do to help things up.

The first and the most rational thing to do is to make sure there's some free storage space available on your device. iOS requires some free room as it functions on your device and if every single megabyte of free space is used by the apps, music, books and movies you’ve downloaded, iOS has less space left and this impacts the performance negatively. So here is what to do:  head to Settings -General - Usage for a summary of "Available" and "Used" space, as well as a list of the apps consuming the most storage.

If you happen to have less than 1GB available space on your device you’ll probably need to head to iTunes and clear up your library of music, apps, photos and videos. However this can be done alternatively from your home screen- navigate to Settings - General - Usage by selecting the app from the list and hitting the Delete App button. As for the music, swipe the files from left to right over the Artist, Song or Album name in the Music app to delete unnecessary files directly.

More ways to clear space on your iOS device is to remove videos and photos from the Camera Roll to empty a little extra space for iOS to operate perfectly.

If your storage still seems to be leaking, it’s recommended to clear out the apps running in the background periodically. You need to double click the home button and the multitasking dock will appear, showing the icons for recently used apps. If you press and hold one of these icons and tap the red circle on each of the apps they will disappear.

And finally, rebooting your iPhone will contribute to speeding up your iDevice a lot. You’d probably like to restart your iPhone if something goes wrong, after new apps or app updates are installed or simply if the device has been on for several days or weeks. To reboot your iPhone hold down the wake/sleep button at the top of the device and press use the slider to power down when "slide to power off" is displayed. Once the screen goes dark, press the sleep/wake button again to turn your iPhone on. It’ll definitely perform faster and smoother.

Hope these tips above helped you speed up your beloved iPhone. If you know some other (and probably better) ways to  accelerate the iPhone performance, do not hesitate to tip us below in the comments.

4 Reasons To Buy iPhone 4S

This article is targeted to two segments of readers:

those who have not yet upgraded to iPhone4S and use older iDevices or even still linger on other brands – to demonstrate why iPhone 4S is much better than others;
for those who already enjoy the latest Apple smartphone – to once more make sure they’ve made the right choice!

Even those who don’t fancy Apple gadgets agree that in our time the Apple iPhone 4S, 4 and 3GS belong to the best-selling line of smartphones ever. We all perfectly know that demand breeds supply, so every now and then it is rather difficult to find exciting iPhone 4S contract deals. This may be one of the main drawbacks hindering you to get an iPhone 4S that is so stylish nowadays. Below you’ll find 4 major reasons why you should not miss the chance to feel real smartphone experience with iPhone 4S!

Performance – this is usually the key factor in deciding which smartphone to buy. It’s quite difficult to think of any other phone that works that quickly and ensures such a smooth performance. The new iPhone 4s boasts with a dual-core processor found in Apple’s latest tablet, but it is much faster than its forerunner. This improvement is most vivid while playing games- no crashing, no slowdown, no problems!

Siri – the major point of difference of iPhone 4S, and probably the feature that makes Apple’s latest smartphone outclass others in the market. The intelligent voice assistant that listens to you, completes your commands, tells you jokes, replies to e-mails and text messages instead of you, reminds birthdays, meetings and other important dates… Let’s agree- it’s hard to find assistant like Siri in human world too. But iPhone 4S has this precious feature built-in and it is always ready to help you!

Camera - this Apple gadget with its 8 megapixel camera turns to be a rather serious photo-taking machine. Moreover, if you consider the camera apps available in iTunes (such as Instagram), shooting experience becomes even more exciting with iPhone 4S. Despite being the one of high quality, iPhone 4S camera is one of the fastest, so it guarantees you capture each and every magic moment on the go. With the latest iOS update 5.1 iPhone camera is even faster to access, so basically you always have it on your fingertips.

Battery Life – no smartphone would be good if its battery life is not satisfying. Even despite the fact that iPhone 4S comes with a A5 dual core processor, 8MP camera, and Siri assistant, the device boasts with a rather impressive battery life that offers you up to 8 hours of talking, up to 10 hours of video, and listen to music for a staggering 40 hours straight.

And one more thing … ( in style of Steve) – if you consider the fact that next iPhone- may it be iPhone 5 or simply The New iPhone, has a long, long way to come, you’ll not be disappointed when you buy iPhone 4S, as the newer smartphone won’t be launched for quite a long time, as it seems.

Hope we convinced you to finally make a lifetime decision you’ll never regret and move on iPhone 4S!

Voice Control –Siri Alternative For iPhone 4 Or iPhone 3GS

Siri is a dream feature for iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS users. With iPhone 4S being available to complete any of your voice commands, Apple has made it officially impossible for older iPhones to do the same. However there is no need to worry, as iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS have built Voice Control right into the phone and while it’s still limited in functionality; it’s very easy to use.

There are two ways to activate this feature on your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS: you need to either just press and hold the home button or use the middle button on your headphones or Bluetooth headset if you’re using any. You’ll then hear a beep and Voice Control UI should appear on your screen, asking you to speak your command. Below you’ll find the available commands that work smoothly on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS:

Dialing and calling options: say “dial” or directly “call” + number; contact name – work, home, mobile, ect.

Music Options: say “Play” + playlist name, song title, album title, artist name. This includes Pause options as well, activated similarly. You can also ask you iPhone to play next/previous song/track, shuffle the track order or even ask your iPhone what’s currently playing, what song is this or who’s singing this.

Your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS is also able to tell you “what time is it” and the current date.

When you make a mistake or your speech is recognized wrong, your iPhone will ask you to clarify and if you say “No, Not That One, Wrong” or anything else of that nature that feels natural, and it will go back.

The good thing to note is that those commands that doesn’t involve a phone call also works on the 3rd and 4th generation iPod touch similarly. Moreover, Voice Control works no matter where you are in the iPhone, Home Screen or app, and even when you’re iPhone is locked. So in such an unfair situation (with only iPhone 4S completing voice commands) we think it helps ( at least a bit).

How To Jailbreak iPhone 4S Running iOS 5.1

There are so many controversial opinions about jailbreaking that it is actually quite hard to make this decision. First of all you should know the basic difference between untethered and tethered jailbreak: an untethered jailbreak means you can turn off your device and reboot without the use of a computer, while a tethered jailbreak means you cannot reboot your device if you turn it off without the use of a computer.

So let’s move on how to actually apply an untethered jailbreak on your iPhone 4S running on updated iOS - 5.1. Before we actually get started, note that you proceed on your own risk and we are not responsible if you lose any data. So the first thing to do is to download the iPhone 4S jailbreak tool - Absinthe - from here.   Note that Windows version is coming soon. Once the file is downloaded, follow the steps below carefully:

First thing to do is to open the file and plug your device in. if a passcode is enabled on your device, you should disable it right now.

Then check the “Jailbreak” button on the downloaded file and wait for the progress bar to be fully loaded. Don’t mess with your device!

Now you should see an Absinthe app installed on your iPhone 4S. Try opening the app and if you get a database error, keep closing and re-opening it till the app is opened properly.

When the app is completely loaded your iPhone should restart automatically. Once your device boots up, it will be successfully jailbroken!

Now you can make the best use of your updated iPhone 4S

Keep Your SMS Conversations Private And Fun

Have you ever wondered how to protect your privacy and disallow pop-ups of your iPhone SMS revealing the extracts of your text message? This is quite simple, though not set by the default. This might be quite annoying sometimes, but fortunately it can be changed quite simply. All you need to make your iPhone text messages more discreet is to follow the steps below:

Tap on the Settings from your home screen
Select Messages
Find the option which says “Show Preview” and disable by switching it off.

If you did everything right, from now on your iPhone will never display the content of your SMS, but will only show the name of the sender and just “text message”.

As for making the typing process faster and more fun, one of the One of the new features of iOS 5 gives you the ability to do just that quite simply:

Navigate to Settings and select General;
Tap on Keyboard just towards the bottom and find a section called Shortcuts;
Select Add New Shortcut and type the entire phrase in the Phrase field;
Then type in the acronym you want to be replaced with the above phrase in the Shortcut field and tap save.
In the Shortcut field, type in the acronym you want to be replaced with the above phrase.

If you’d like to edit or delete the shortcut, it is available from the Keyboard menu as well. You are allowed to add as many shortcuts as you’d love to. One you type a shortcut you’ll see a bubble popping up with the replacement phrase, working exactly as auto correct- if you press space the replacement will be allowed. To cancel the replacement, tap the bubble itself.

This is all for now. If you’d love to hear more tips on texting, just drop us a line below in the comments and we’ll come up with more information on the subject. Wish you nice texting till then!

iPhone Banned Apps

Throughout the second quarter of 2011 Apple declared that their App Store had extended to the astounding level - 15 billion songs that had been downloaded from iTunes and more than 425,000 apps currently available in the iTunes market for purchase or download. However it is quite easy to track the app performance via the user ratings and comments, so there are tons of programs that don’t make the final cut and are pulled after an initial approval, or might even be entirely banned by the mobile technology giant. We present you 10 notorious examples of the apps that have been either blocked after release, or disqualified even before they reached fruition.

Exodus International – Stating to cure homosexuality and encouraging the “ex-gay” movement, the app came under fire from human rights groups that ultimately succeeded in having the App banned. However the removal didn’t come easily- only after 150,000 people had signed an online petition had Apple finally reacted to public frustration and removed the Exodus International from the iTunes store.

Phone Story – nowadays no one is ever surprised about the less-than-ideal working conditions of those who manufacture Apple products. The aim of the Phone Story App was to illustrate the child labor, environmental harm and unsafe factories that Apple utilizes. Again unsurprisingly, the app was banned within hours.

Jew or Not Jew? – as the name hints, this app was deeply racist, but at the very first glance it had a basic function - it allowed users to access a database full of public figures and celebrities to determine whether or not they were of Jewish descent. Expectedly, anti-racism group in France took action and threatened Apple with litigation, so Jew or Not Jew? was quickly removed from the app store.

Baby Shaker – even the most inexperienced teenage babysitter knows that shaking a baby is terribly dangerous. However, this concept was taken to an entirely new level with Baby Shaker App – the aim of the game was to shake a drawing of an infant accompanied by the sounds of a wailing child as violently as possible. If the crying of a fictional infant would have ceased at this point, what the cries from child protection groups did was to insist removing the app from iTunes.

There are many other examples of such stories, which can be found here. So if you are an app developer with some “great” ideas in mind, think twice before you decide on what to include in the app and what to dismiss.

Siri In Japanese Hands-On

Japanese support for Siri has just been added to iPhone 4S by Apple with its latest software update, iOS 5.1. However, it appears that the voice-activated assistant doesn't perform as well as it does in English, moreover, it works worse than its competing service Shabette Concier from NTT Docomo, according to the videos spread recently on YouTube.

In the video provided below you’ll find Siri in Japanese head-to-head with its counterpart. You’ll definitely notice that the language processing is not quite smooth, as well as the inability to display maps and local hospitals and restaurants yet. Siri also appears to be taking more time process requests than its competitor, even though this could have more to do with variances in the two networks than in the original software.

However, the better functionality of Shabette Concier at finding recipes than Siri is because of its integration with Japan's Cookpad recipe service. Although the homemade counterpart has serious advantages over Apples famous voice assistance in Japanese, it is still quite hard to imagine that this slows down Siri’s huge momentum in the country, as 4 out of 10 iPhones sold in Japan are different iPhone 4S flavors!

Although Japanese Siri offers most of the same functionality as it does in English, there are some areas that need improvement. While looking up the weather, performing web searches and Reading and creating messages work evenly in both languages, there are some bugs in Japanese Siri when you move calendar appointments around, together with some remarkable issues processing Japanese language. Below we provided a video captured by guys at The Verge, assessing Siri’s Japanese performance the way that is more familiar for you.

Siri Secret Commands

You've probably already mastered how to treat Siri to get the information you want, rather than some absurd answers Apple’s intelligent assistant gives if it misunderstood your command. Below you’ll find some random useful tips on how to make it easier for Siri to precisely understand what you mean.

If you have created playlists and given them certain names, for example: ‘morning songs’ or ‘romantic’ or just anything, you can make Siri play it for you if your command sounds the following way: Play playlist + playlist name.

If you’re a busy person you probably get tones of e-mails daily. To easily sort and find e-mails by certain sender, ask Siri to: Find all email by and a contact name.

Did you know that Siri can tell you the name of that actor you know you’ve seen before but just can’t remember the name? Simply ask: Who was in the cast of and name the movie. One more thing about movies, if you’d like to get information about movie times and ticket purchasing in your area, your command should sound like this: [Movie Name] show times [zip code - optional]" – to get best results. However if you have set Google in Safari to use your current location, you don’t even need to specify an area code.

If you’ve set it up on social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, or others that let you update via SMS, Siri will message your status right to it if you say: Message + specify social network+ status: what you’d like Siri to post.

To get Siri find sports scores efficiently, just say: Yahoo/Google/Bing (or whatever) + Team name+ score, for example: Google Chelsea score – and you’ll get the answer. In this way you’ll not only be shown the current score if the game is currently in progress, but it will show the team record, score of the last game, and upcoming game.

And now, check some of the crazy answers Siri usually gives to your stupid questions below.

What’s New In iOS 5.1

So much awaited iOS 5 update has finally been rolled, announced on an iPad event on March 7th , San Francisco. Due to the fact that there has been no single mention of the update since January 9th (the last beta release date), the expectations about iOS 5.1 have gone wild. Unfortunately there are no surprises in iOS 5.1  as it was anticipated, but the update brings several major improvements along with some minor changes in audio and call quality.

One of the most vivid changes concerns the way you access the camera app: if you had to double tap your device and then again press the home button to access camera in previous iOS versions, now the camera icon is always present on the lock screen when the phone is on, and is activated by just sliding the icon up.

The next change concerns the camera app too, but this time for iPad: it is redesigned the way that performs faster, smoother and has some minor basic functions added. One more thing that’s new is that you now finally have an option to delete photos from your photo stream! And the last and the most expected: Japanese Siri is also present and will be available by March 16th.

The update also brings major battery improvements for the sake of iPhone 4S owners, fixing all the previous issues that the users complained so much about.

Despite battery fixes, there is one  more important thing iPhone 4S users should know: iOS 5.1 turns iPhone 4S into a 4G iPhone on AT&T's network, but unfortunately without any increasee in speed.

The latest iOS firmware update is already available for each and every iDevice, but if you have jailbroken your device, avoid upgrading to iOS 5.1 because you may lose your jailbreak.

Apple’s March 7 Event Complete Coverage: New iPad, Apple TV and iOS 5 Updates

Several hours ago Apple dropped a huge press conference in San Francisco for making three major announcements: the launch of so much rumored and awaited iPad, highly expected Apple TV and some major updates with the current iOS.

New Apple TV features 1080p programming comprising iTunes movies and TV shows, Netflix, Vimeo, photos and more, and all in HD! With iTunes in the Cloud, users can get hands on their favorite movies and TV shows right from the iTunes Store instantly, enjoying them in HD. Despite the huge speed and simplicity, the new Apple TV features humbler, advanced user interface making it easier than ever to access your purchased movies, TV shows and music with iTunes Match right from iCloud. Streaming or mirroring your favorite content from the rest of iDevices including iPad or iPhone is also available. On the other hand, you can buy movies and TV shows on Apple TV and watch them on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC too, with incredibly high speed, no matter which device you choose to use.

Apple TV will be available on March 16th for a suggested retail price of $99 (US) through the Apple online store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers and requires iTunes 10.5 or later, 802.11g/n Wi-Fi network or Ethernet network, a broadband Internet connection and a HD TV capable of 1080p or 720p and an HDMI cable that is sold separately.

Now let’s move on to iLife apps for iOS. To complete this bundle, Apple introduced iPhoto for iPad and iPhone and major updates to iMovie and GarageBand. The following improvements were made:

iPhoto now features revolutionary Multi-Touch abilities so you can use simple gestures to sort through hundreds of photos and find your best shots, augment and retouch your images using fingertip brushes and share spectacular photo journals with iCloud. To list the whole new improvements would take us far away, so to cut the long story short, so just imagine Photoshop mating with Instagram- to fully analyze the new capabilities.

With the advanced iMovie you now are able to create amazing Hollywood-style trailers as you record HD video on your iPad and iPhone, even as you’re recording. The new Theater view lets you screen and pick from nine patterns in a range of categories including Superhero, Romance and Fairy Tale. Trailers feature soundtracks written by legendary composers such as Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer and performed by world class musicians like the London Symphony Orchestra.

GarageBand introduces Jam Session, a groundbreaking and really cool feature that allows you to invite up to three friends of yours to wirelessly tie the iOS devices together for playing instruments and record live music. Jam Session spontaneously orchestrates the tempo, key and chords of your Touch Instruments so one and all sound great.

And the last and the most important- the new iPad! The third generation device of its category defining mobile device, featuring a fabulous new Retina display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics and a 5 megapixel iSight camera with progressive optics for capturing amazing photos and 1080p HD video. iPad with Wi-Fi + 4G connects to fast networks worldwide, including AT&T’s and Verizon’s 4G LTE networks, and still delivers the same all-day 10 hour battery life- just like the iPad 2, while remaining amazingly thin and light. Beginning today, iPad 2 will be offered at an even more affordable price starting at just $399!

As for the further details about iPad 3, read through:

Retina display: delivering four times the number of pixels of iPad 2, so compact that the human eye is incapable to differentiate individual pixels when held at an ordinary distance, making web pages, text, images and video look extremely sharp and lifelike. The 3.1 million pixels in the Retina display are more than one million more pixels than an HD TV, and with 44% increased color saturation the new iPad displays colors that are astonishingly richer, deeper and more vivid.

A5X chip – this powerful chip with quad-core graphics was specially designed by Apple to deliver a fast, receptive user experience while supporting the incredible Retina display. With double the visuals performance of the A5 chip, the A5X delivers a superb equilibrium between performance and power efficiency so you can enjoy all the benefits of the stunning new display while experiencing a smooth Multi-Touch interface, intensive gameplay, unbelievable visual depth and all-day battery life that iPad is known for providing.

iSight 5 MP camera features progressive optics for taking fabulous pictures and recording full HD video. Backside illumination is available, allowing you to shoot great photos in low-light environments and a new video image maintenance feature eliminates the bumps and shakes naturally seen when filming with a hand-held device.

Despite the features above, iPad Wi-Fi + 4G with built-in next gen 4G LTE has the most all-inclusive support for fast networks internationally including HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA, and now both CDMA and GSM iPad users have the ability to easily roam internationally.

So much rumored Japanese Siri was also introduced, together with iOS 5.1 and iTunes 10.6 free software updates!

Pre-Orders for iPad are now available. Despite the US, iPad will also be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the US Virgin Islands on Friday, March 16 for a suggested retail price of of $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model and $699 (US) for the 64GB model.

The new device is available in black and white colors and wills hit Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden by the end of March!

Upcoming iOS 5.1 Secret Features

The recent reports claim that Apple has finalized quality assurance examination on iOS 5.1 and will announce it together with the iPad 3 in just several hours’ time. The new version of iOS is said to comprise an augmented lock screen that gives easier admission to the camera, Japanese support for Siri – as previously rumored - and two more new features that have yet to be exposed.

A seep-out kind of the new OS was testified last month, featuring both – Japanese Siri and a ‘slide up to access camera’ gesture on the lock screen too. However, these two innovations does not account for “at least two other new features that have not been publicly leaked.”

Although there are no actual evidences about what remains to be seen, the rumors have spread that there is at least one major feature of the iPad 3 that is yet to be unveiled and that was causing a delay in the launch of new beta versions of iOS 5.1.  There have even been some attempts at guesstimating what it might be here. Will it be Siri, Retina display requiring additional work to be ready or any new feature – will be unveiled soon, very soon.

On the other hand some reports claim that the build number of iOS 5.1 Gold Master is 9B176, which surprisingly has soon been signed by Apple yet. This confirms that any leaked screenshot would have to come from an official device authorized for testing. However, suspends our belief to see any glimpses till the actual event… As soon as iOS 5.1 is allegedly planned for release in the ‘coming days’ it is quite rational to conjecture that the update will be rolled after the iPad 3 announcement, but before it goes on sale.

iPad 3 Latest Headlines – Final Roundup

The world’s most anticipated device, Apple’s next generation iPad, which is said to officially be introduced tomorrow, is still encircled with numerous rumors about the design, name, specs and so on…

The most unexpected thing we’ve heard so far concerns the name of the next gen iPad to be iPad HD instead of iPad 3.  As Apple has a long practice to surprise us (remember the long anticipation of iPhone 5 and we got iPhone 4S after iPhone 4instead, as well as iPhone 3GS after iPhone 3G) and considering the fact that Apple is rumored to be doubling the resolution of the current iPad 2, it is quite possible that we’ll see iPad HD Tomorrow. But if Apple does go with iPad HD, what would the further next generation iPads be called - iPad HD 2, iPad HDS or what?

The next big rumor concerns the screen size. Apple is once again rumored to be purchasing respectively smaller, 7.1-inches, screens for iPad mini type device- according to multiple sources. But why would Apple, which sold 15.43 million full sized, full priced iPad 2 tablets last quarter alone, would complicate the app development process for developers or create yet another UI size for developers to target? Just to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire? It leaks logic a bit, but nothing is foreclosed at all…

And the last thing that sounds incredible- Ten One Design – which has a great reputation when it comes to accessories, has just announced that it is working on a pressure sensitive Bluetooth 4.0 stylus for the next generation iPad 3. However the question is whether the stylus will be coming with the next iPad in the box or will it be sold separately…

This is all for now- not to mention some minor tweaks about the huge resolution, unbelievable speed and so on. So guys, call for just a little patience and wait for tomorrow to unveil the truth!

This is all for now- not to mention some minor tweaks about the huge resolution, unbelievable speed and so on. Whatever there should be introduced, the recent study shows that 42% of iPad owners are ready to buy an iPad 3! So guys, call for just a little patience and wait for tomorrow to unveil the truth!
