Get The Latest Siri Features Brought By iOS 6 On Your iOS 5 Devices

Apple has introduced one of the most incremental updates on WWDC 2012 this year. iOS 6 has brought handful of incredible features most of iPhone users dreamed of. We’ve already covered most of the improvements and even provided the complete guide to iOS 6 to our readers, but since the latest iOS is yet not available for the end users, the best iDevice owners are able to get so far is the iOS 5 (except the developers, of course). So we thought it’d be quite timely to search for alternative ways of getting the best iOS 6 features on your devices powered with the previous iOS versions.

Surprisingly, most of the top Siri features listed in the iOS 6 keynote have already been available for iOS 5! Despite the fact that they may seem less sophisticated and a bit scattered, the performance is still present! So check carefully how to get some of the top Siri features on your iOS 5 devices right now!

iOS 6 has brought major improvements to Siri, including the understanding of sports-related questions and advanced searching in some newly-added countries. However, these features have already been available via tweaks from Cydia.

You’re able to get the answers to your queries related to NBA, MLB and NHL stats, scores and timing from Siri via SiriSports tweak, available for free from Cydia under ModMyi.

As for the local search, users from unsupported countries are able to install International Locations for Siri via BigBoss repo for just $0.99 to get the feature.

Moreover, you can also teach Siri to Tweet for you by following 8 easy steps clarified in one of our previous articles.

For those looking forward to getting Siri for iPad since the launch of the iPhone 4S and iOS 5, it’d be quite useful to learn that their quest is over! Regardless the fact that Siri has finally made its way onto the iPad with iOS 6 introduction, the feature is said to be only available for the latest iPad owners.

No need to worry, though, as there is a tweak called Spire, introduced by the jailbreak community for those disappointed users who own older iPad models running iOS 5.0.1 or earlier. Moreover, it’s not just the first and second generation iPads, but Spire also supports iPhone 4, 3GS and the iPod touch!

New Lifelike Images Demonstrating New iPhone In All Its Glory

With the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook claiming that he’s not going to put any energy into getting people to stop speculating, the buzz around the new iPhone has gone even further! Different sources suggest different visions, make mock ups based on the rumored specs and some of them claim to even have got their hands on the new iPhone! We’ve united three different rumors in this one article to give you the opportunity of comparing which of the designs look more appealing and realistic to you.

Check all of the recent rumor roundup about the upcoming device by Apple provided below and do not hesitate to express your opinion in the comments.

The first one shows a complete iPhone as well as various components and, of course, assumes that they are real. Regardless a few obvious design changes across the handset, we think these images could as successfully have been the iPhone 4 /4S concepts as those of an upcoming iPhone the Japanese iLab suggest they are for.

The second flow of rumors claiming to be stemming directly out of Foxconn factory suggest the purported iPhone also conforming to the widely expected design standards. The images are of quite a poor quality, making us think that they are far from being true. However, in an ever-changing tech world, we cannot except anything until we see the real new iPhone in October.

And the last one – the video demonstrating the potential housings of the new iPhone, along with providing a brief outline on some outer casings. Surprisingly or not, these one seems to be matching the look and feel of the images we've shared before. Some specs, including the familiar SIM card slot as well as the smaller connector on the bottom stress the video is not far from the current speculations, but nothing can be clarified at this right time, as Apple keeps as mysterious as it usually is before introducing the new product.

Tim Cook Hints The New Device Is Coming!

With the mystery around the timeline for the arrival of an iPhone 5, Apple management dropped a broad hint about the company’s upcoming devices. There has been a huge outbreak of rumors about the upcoming iPhone, but Apple, as usual, has managed to remain absolutely mute about what’s next for its famous handset.

An analyst from Barclays managed to interview Apple’s CEO about the fall product transition. When asked to talk a little bit about the sequential change in margins, how much the company expects to get back in the Q4 in comparison with recently announced Q3 results and the speculations about the upcoming device hurting the current sales, Tim Cook did drop a few hints:

"It's difficult to sort out. I am fairly convinced that there's an incredible anticipation out there for a future product. And as you would expect given what we would be able to deliver in the's a reasonable amount. In terms of channel inventory, we put our current thinking in the guidance Peter Oppenheimer (Apple CFO) provided you."

Let’s agree that this answer is far from a rigorous denial… So, with no “flat no”, the chatterboxes who power the rumor mill, claim it is a “yes”! Being also asked about the smaller iPad several times, and it’s competitiveness in lower price-band areas, mentioning the latest $199 Nexus 7 tablet by Google, Tim Cook didn’t pay attention to the question and gave a quite general answer:

"Our north star will be making the best products in the world - that's what we breathe, that's why we live and we are not changing that. Economic turmoil may push us from side to side, but we're going to stay focused on making the best product. We've seen again and again over the years, that this is when we distance ourselves further from people who don't innovate."

However, Cook allowed that his company could be more aggressive on price points. “We did that with the $399 iPad a few months ago, and the iPhone 3GS, which is free on contract in the U.S. and a few other places”- he said.

With no exhaustive replies, Tim Cook’s answers did not quite manage to satisfy the enormous curiosity of the fans. This does mean that the speculations will continue to arise. However, this doesn’t seem to disturb the CEO of Apple - "I am glad people want the next thing, I'm super happy about that. I'm not going to put any energy into getting people to stop speculating," – he commented.

PowerPoint And Outlook Apps For iOS Are In Works

It seems we’ll soon get the Office suite of apps for iOS. The image of a supposed early build of the software has been published back in May by multiple trusted sources, and now we get a few hints of the iOS version Microsoft Office to be in preparation. The job listings posted earlier this month at Microsoft careers website is what initiated these rumors once more. The job statement says the company is looking for a software engineer on the Outlook Test team to work on Microsoft’s next move on the Mac and on iOS. Moreover, there is another job listing on the PowerPoint Test team too.

With SkyDrive, OneNote, etc., that are already available for iOS devices, could benefit from office integration a lot, but strangely the listings specifically look for someone to test Outlook/Powepoint on Mac and iOS.

Despite the fact that these postings are far from the proof, there is still a hope that the full versions of the immensely popular productivity suite are on their way to Apple’s mobile platform.

Check the two images provided below and do not hesitate to express your expectations in the comments!

Apple Gets Victory Over Samsung - Bans Galaxy Tab 7.7 Sales In Europe

The court battles of Apple and Samsung are quite heavily discussed these days. The latest ruling has granted Apple injunction preventing sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7.7 in the whole EU!

With different reasons, this latest case has particularly raised the curiosity. One of such reasons is that with the recent release of Nexus 7, the ASUS-manufactured Jelly Bean device, Apple has got the right to prevent quite a low number of unit sales. Moreover, the decision of the German judge is completely in contrast with the last week’s UK ruling, forcing Apple to issue a series advertisements saying “Samsung Didn’t Copy The iPad.” This is for clearing its bitter rival of any wrongdoing.

For those unaware, the British judge Colin Birrs assessed Galaxy Tab 7.7, 8.9 and 10.1 not to be cool enough to have copied the iPad, thus they did not infringe on any of Apple’s registered patents. However, the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court still decided that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 violates Apple’s iPad patent designs, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1N does not infringe the same patents.

With the never ending patent war between the companies, the win over the Galaxy Tab 7.7 may seem somewhat unreasonable from the side of Apple, while analysts think it its Nexus 7 Apple should chase after. However, it doesn’t seem strange to us at all, as Apple is rumored to launch the iPad mini soon, that’s said to feature a 7” screen. With this said; the company may be preparing ground for the launch of its mini iPad. What are your thoughts? Do not hesitate to share below in the comments.

Apple Reports Q3 Results

Apple has just announced the corporate financial results for its fiscal 2012 third quarter ended June 30, 2012. The quarterly revenue posted equals $35.0 billion and the company reported quarterly net profit of $8.8 billion. Gross margin was 42.8 percent compared to 41.7 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 62 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple has also reported that 26.0 million iPhones have been sold in the quarter, demonstrating 28 percent unit growth over the last year quarter. As for the other iDevices, 17.0 million iPads and 4.0 million Macs have been sold, representing an 84% unit growth for the tablet and a 10% unit decline for Mac from the year-ago quarter.

The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook has commented: “We’re thrilled with record sales of 17 million iPads in the June quarter. We’ve also just updated the entire MacBook line, will release Mountain Lion tomorrow and will be launching iOS 6 this Fall. We are also really looking forward to the amazing new products we’ve got in the pipeline.”

According to Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CF, the company is continuing to invest in the growth of their business and is pleased to be declaring a dividend of $2.65 per share for the period. A cash dividend of $2.65 per share of the Company’s common stock has also been declared, that will be delivered to the stockholders of record on August 16, 2012. The projections are quite optimistic, with the revenue of about $34 billion and diluted earnings per share of about $7.65 expected for the fourth fiscal quarter.

However, sales of the iPhone have dropped from the 35.1m of the last quarter. As reported, this is due to the fact that consumers wait for the likely release of a new iPhone model this fall and refrain from buying the currently latest iPhone 4S. Here is the paraphrase of Tim Cook’s comment about the upcoming iPhone speculations, causing the decline in iPhone sales:

“We try very hard to keep our roadmaps secret and confidential, go to extreme actions to do that, however that doesn't stop people from speculating and wondering. We can never stop that. That's one of the great things about this country. So we won't spend any energy trying to stop that. I'm glad people want the next thing. I'm super happy about that.”

You can see the Q2 – Q3 comparison for the updated Mac and the new iPad in the table provided below.

The Latest Siri Ad Demonstrates Martin Scorsese's Busy Day

Did you think Apple has done with its celebrity Siri ads? It’s not only Apple products starring in Hollywood movies, but Hollywood stars do take part in Apple ads, as well, including the Siri ads featuring John Malkovich , Samuel L. Jackson and Zooey Deschanel

The latest ad by Apple demonstrating the usefulness of its digital voice assistant Siri features Martin Scorsese as an ordinary NYC yellow Taxi passenger. As the director heads downtown, he gets his virtual assistant to shuffle his schedule.

Regardless the fact that the action is not captured, Martin Scorsese also uses Siri to check the traffic on his route – this emphasizes the improved functionality of providing accurate real-time data feature, brought by the yet unreleased iOS 6. Taking the numerous other improvements the latest iOS version brings into consideration, it is quite likely that more ads are to come, communicating the augmented capabilities of iProducts. As for now, enjoy The busy Day of Martin Scorsese provided below and do not hesitate to have your say in the comments!

5 iPhone 5 Facts

The new iPhone by Apple, which is said to be already in production, still remains to be mysterious for the end users. Despite the uncertainty about the upcoming device, below you’ll find the statements that are known for sure about the iPhone 5:

1. Regardless the lack of agreement about the name Apple will give its next smartphone, iPhone 5 is said to be the most realistic alternative. According to the recent statistics, the term “iPhone 5” is mentioned on Twitter Inc.’s website once about every 11 seconds!

2. To mainly focus on Apple's orders, Pegatron Technologies, currently in works with Toshiba, Acer, Lenovo and Fujitsu, has internally decided to downsize its SI motherboard department and to shift resources to Apple's orders. This shifting in resources is expected to benefit Pegatron in its operations, as the company has landed orders for a new-generation iPhone to be launched in September and a 10-inch iPad to be launched in the fourth quarter.

3. Despite the fact that there is nothing confirmed about the new iPhone features yet, the latest survey by ChangeWave released on Monday unveiled that there is the unprecedented level of advanced demand for the next generation Apple iPhone. 14 percent of consumers indicated they are "very likely" to buy a so-called "iPhone 5." Another 17 percent of people said they are "somewhat likely" to buy Apple's next iPhone. These survey numbers demonstrate the advance demand of any previous iPhone launch!

4. Along with the huge demand for the next iPhone, the fans are delaying purchases. With a redesigned model probably arriving by October, analysts guesstimate that sales of iPhones - Apple’s major source of revenue - fell in the fiscal third quarter from prior periods. The purchasing delays will probably weigh down results until the device hits the stores in October, as suggested.

5. And the last one, not fairly a fact, but still… Some of the most widely-predicted iPhone 5 features based on the numerous reports from different sources include: a 1GB on-board memory, 4G/LTE support and inclusion of NFC support on the handset. For more detailed report on iPhone 5 features, check the summary of the new iphone rumors – name, screen, specs, release date and more…

Apple Products Starring In Hollywood Movies

Along with the celebs owning Apple products in real life, the iDevices dominate Hollywood movie industry as well.  Overshadowing all of its competitors in the technology sphere, the product placement strategy of Apple seems to be no different. Apple-branded products have appeared in one-third of all number one films at the US box office since 2001 till today. This means that iDevices star in 124 top movies out of the 366.

Apple’s product placement “unboxing” is considered to be the short Macintosh placement in 1986's Short Circuit, followed by the placements in Mission Impossible and Independence Day in 1996.

Carrie Bradshaw also picked up Apple device as her constant companion in Sex and the City. The latter is considered to be the most influential Apple product placement of all time and moreover, probably one of the ten most influential product placements of all. This was when Apple realized to flip its logo upside down too.

In order to maintain the balance, Apple has become the choice of undersexed Twilight after featuring the oversexed Sex and the City series. Regardless the fact that Bella’s computer is originally described as an "old" and "second hand” in the book, the movie let the millions of rabid Twilight fans know that she uses a shiny new MacBook and an iPod.

Aiming to highlight its "Think Different" motto, and to position itself as a lifestyle choice for young women, Apple has placed its iBook in Legally Blonde as the choice of Elle Woods. Moreover, Wall-E owns an iPod too, emphasizing the fact that Apple’s brand association is so strong; it can easily influence a film in which its products barely appeared.

Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks have both chosen Apple computers in You've Got Mail. However, the 21st century’s "You've Got Mails" - Something's Gotta Give and It's Complicated have proved that aging baby boomer representatives have too gone online for romance. Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton demonstrate web-chatting ease with their Apple MacBooks.

Apple’s outstanding performance in the product placement field has stimulated its competitors to try and catch up. Sony Pictures has struggled to achieve a complete elimination of Apple from its films in recent years by replacing it with Vaio-branded notebooks at every opportunity. However, regardless the attempts, Apple's onscreen casting appears almost impossible to match. Even though HP has signed a substantial product placement contract for product placement in Sex and the City 2, a MacBook and an iPhone still star in the final film.

Check the gallery after the jump, demonstrating Apple’s successful product placement examples that we’ve  mentioned above. Don’t you think Apple deserves an Oscar for it's bit in the movie industry?! Do not hesitate to have your say in the comments below!

Summary Of The New iPhone Rumors – Name, Screen, Specs, Release Date And More…

With just a few months left till the next iPhone announcement, the upcoming smartphone by Apple is trending in news almost every day. We've recently been suggested a concept drawing of the iPhone 5 based on the very latest rumors, including a 19-pin port, dimensions of 120mm x 58.6mm x 7.9mm, 4-inch screen and a Liquid-metal Back Plate. You are able to check the image provided on the left. So we decided to sum up all the recent rumors and present a recap of what we know about the newest model below.

The first and probably the most important thing about the upcoming smartphone is its name. Last year, Apple tricked us all with the introduction of an iPhone 4S, while it was highly expected that the device would have been called the iPhone 5. The Cupertino company has once more surprised the blogosphere with calling its latest tablet called the “new iPad” instead of the anticipated “iPad 3”.  So Apple has proved to be doing away with numbering conventions. While it is still widely believed that the upcoming smartphone will be called an iPhone 5, it’s not foreclosed that we’ll just get the “New iPhone” instead.

Screen is the next major feature users usually pay attention to. According to the majority of latest rumors, the next iPhone will have a thinner screen using in-cell technology from the display makers such as Sharp, Japan Display and LG Display. The images have been spread, claiming that the display will be much thinner on account of the technology that eliminates the need of about a half a millimeter thick touch-screen layer. Despite making the device slimmer, the in-cell technology improves the image quality as well. Moreover, the iPhone 5 display is said to measure at least 4 inches diagonally – significantly larger than the 3.5 inches all of the existing iPhone models.

The upcoming iPhone is suggested to be powered with the latest iOS 6, which comes with 200 new features, including enhancements to “voice assistant” Siri, a 3-D maps service with turn-by-turn navigation, a new Passbook app and many more. To learn more about the iOS 6 features, check our detailed guide on what’s new in iOS 6.

And importantly, the mostly speculated topic about the iPhone 5 is its release date. With the analysts expecting the iPhone 5 to hit the market this fall, some of the sources still claim it “can exclusively reveal” the date will be August 7th. Whatever the case may be, all of the major carriers are likely to begin selling the New iPhone once it’s launched.

iOS 6 Hidden Features - Part 2

We’ve just shared the first portion of iOS 6 features that have managed to stay out of the eyesight of majority of the users, regardless the resonant iOS 6 announcement at WWDC 2012. As promised, we’re covering the rest of the “secrets” the latest mobile OS by Apple comprises. Below you’ll find the changes brought by the iOS 6 that you may have missed. Let’s get started:

With the IP address tap, that has nearly entirely run dry, the web is keenly moving to IPv6 – this is a system with enormous amount of addresses to share. With this said; the support for these new 128-bit locators has been added in iOS 6.

Did you know that with iOS6 you’ll be able to learn how long your battery has survived since its last full charge? This is available on the usage page under Settings, and even counts standby and actual usage separately!

If you’re using the built-in YouTube app on your iOS 6 device, it may still seem a barely functional hunk of junk. However, it has finally become available to grab a URL of the current video from the 'Share' page!
The Apple’s beloved Safari browser has also been touched by the update – it now allows you to have way more than nine tabs open at a time on some devices. On iPad, those web pages that can't fit on the screen are shown in a drop-down box.

Drafts can be accessed fairly quickly now, via holding the compose button in the Mail app - a handy pop-up box listing all your latest drafts will appear instantly.

The History access has also gone easier. The list of recently visited websites can quickly be displayed by holding your finger down on the back (or forward) arrows.

The handy search panel to the left of your apps - the Spotlight folders- is for finding contacts, apps and emails, and other stuff like that. Once found, it demonstrates the exact folder where the searched item is stored in.

Another great feature of iOS 6 is the availability of setting separate email signatures for each account on your iDevice. Moreover, the signatures can be edited using basic italic, bold and underline options.

And the last one for now - while you shut down the iDevice, the little spinning Retina enabled icon appears! Hope you enjoyed this part of hidden features as much as the previous one! Do not hesitate to express your opinion and share anything we have missed to mention here below in the comments.

Moreover, Foxconn plant in Zhengzhou is also rumored to be hiring a large number of workers, as we’ve previously covered. iOS 6 Hidden Features

Regardless the resonant iOS 6 launch at WWDC 2012 recently, some features of the Apple’s latest iOS still remain silent. We’ve covered the updated iOS Maps, smarter Siri and Facebook integration, while what you’ll read below has not yet been communicated till now!

As usual, Apple has still included numerous tiny tweaks and some incremental updates in its latest mobile OS, the majority of which may have stayed undiscovered, if not the sharp eyes of iPhone developers. Below you’ll find the pick of a 'hidden' iOS 6 features you’re definitely unaware of. However, there is one thing you should note- Apple may change some of these features before the iOS 6 is officially released to the end users.

Being obsessed with the details, Apple has included metallic sliders in the music app on iPhone and iPod. Shining on the switches, they do change as you tilt the iDevice.

The app updates are now made easier than ever before. Not quite as easy as Android auto-updates, but now you’re not prompted for your password every time you decide to upgrade.

As we’ve already covered, gay and lesbian couple emoticons are now included in iOS 6. Moreover, emoji is extended with the icons of Facebook and more animals.

Along with the complete overhaul to the App Store, Apple has introduced a total history of updates for every app, enabling users to precisely see when any of the apps installed was updated and what has been added.

Moreover, you may have not noticed that your iOS Home screen now features new app banners over the freshly downloaded apps. This is for reminding you of some oblivious features, such as to play newly purchased games.

Another tiny UI magic has been added to your mail, enabling you to refresh your inbox just by dragging the list down and then pinging it back. This feature is quite likely to be borrowed by the developers for implementing in their apps.

And the last one for now- you are now able to select any tune from your iPod library and make it act as your alarm jingle.

Hope you enjoyed discovering these “concealed” features of iOS 6. However, this is not all – the part 2 of iOS 6 Hidden Features is to come soon, so stay tuned!

Gay And Lesbian Couple Emoticons Are Included In iOS 6

For those unaware, emojis have originated from Japan and decipher as picture (e) and letter (moji). The pictograms have soon become popular and travelled to the Western parts of the world. The icons were introduced to iPhone along with the iPhone launch into the Japanese market – as a part of Japanese culture adoption process. Soon adapted by iPhone users form other countries as well, emojis have become the indivisible part of texting and emailing nowadays.

Apple has significantly extended the emoji icon assortment with the new iOS 6, comprising the two gay and lesbian icons that were missing in the previous versions of iOS. It’s the first time, gay and lesbian couples are being represented in the emoji palette. The new emoticons are placed beside the already existing heterosexual couple and heterosexual couple with a son. One of them shows two men holding hands and the other shows two women in the same position.

With iOS updates, continually making Apple products more efficient and easy to use, the emoji extension would be no surprise, if one quite strange thing had not been spotted – the newly added gay and lesbian emoticons miss facial expressions, unlike the other available icons...

Moreover, there is no child in tow, in difference with a heterosexual couple with a son just to the left… However, there is no doubt that the new icons represent couples with non-traditional sexual orientation, as they’re aligned in a “relationship” row… What do you think can be the reason for that? Do not hesitate to express your opinion below in the comments.

Japanese Blog Reports Next-Gen iPhone Will Arrive This Fall

According to the Japanese blog Macotakara, the new iPhone will definitely launch this fall. The much-awaited device is now in production over in China. Citing “reliable Chinese sources”, Japanese website claims the sixth generation iPhone series will launch sometime in September or early October.

With misguiding pre-announcement iPhone forecasts spread last year, the tech world is somewhat doubtful about the report. However the speculations reach its peak and the rumors seem to be popping up from all directions, all of which are demonstrating a longer form factor of the upcoming device, but the different release dates. However, it should be mentioned that the same Japanese blog has successfully predicted the iPhone 4S release in 2011. So it should be said that if the same “reliable Chinese sources” appear to be accurate this year as well, we will definitely see the iconic new iPhone to hit the market this fall!

The report also suggest that the new iPhone could have a different look and feel than the currently flagship iPhone 4S, and will feature a back panel two-toned with glass and aluminum. Along with the Japanese reports, different sources have shared the shots from the rough-looking prototype device from almost every angle possible. The images provided below are said to be a "pre-release samples" of the device, but look a bit different from the production models we've previously shared with you.

With the intense criticism we’ve got lately due to dubbing the upcoming smartphone as the iPhone 5, majority of the tech-related media suggest the new device will be called so. However, the same rumors have been spread with the iPhone 4S introduction, with no single leak mentioning the “S” in their reports. Whatever the case may be with the name, one thing is obvious - as the time goes on, we get more accurate idea of what the final product will look like. Check the images provided below and do not hesitate to sound off in the comments!
